REWIRE – Next Generation of Semiconductors Report – 18 November 2025
REWIRE Showcase, University of Warwick
This Showcase was organised by the REWIRE Innovation and Knowledge Centre (IKC), www.rewire-ikc.org, an £11M UKRI supported project which is being run through a collaboration between the Universities of Bristol, Cambridge and Warwick. REWIRE is dedicated to pioneering next-generation semiconductor technologies and power electronic devices to help the UK achieve its net-zero ambitions.
The Showcase encompassed a review of the results achieved to date and the highlights included:
- Development of Ga2O3 devices and packaging
- High Voltage vertical GaN device demonstration
- Need for high density power supplies for Data Centre applications
- Improvements in oxide deposition methods for SiC device fabrication
- High voltage superjunction MOSFET (3.3kV) and IGBT/Thyristor (>6.5kV) development
- Liquid metal die attach for power module assembly
- Sandwich ceramic substrates for reduced parasitics

REACT – Responsible Electronics and Circular Technologies Conference Report – 11-12 November 2025
1st International Conference, Technology and Innovation Centre, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow
This Conference was organised by the REACT Project, a 5 year UKRI supported project which is being run by the University of Glasgow, with the University of Edinburgh, Heriot Watt University and the CSA Catapult as research partners. REACT is a £6M+ Green Economy Centre supporting the electronic, ICT, semiconductor, quantum and photonics industries in transitioning to a circular economy and reducing emissions.
The Conference was attended by 126 delegates, approximately 75% of which were academic based, with 2 days of presentations including 2 Keynotes, 5 Technical Sessions, 1 Panel Discussion and 40 posters submitted.
The REACT Conference brought together academics and industry professionals to discuss advancing the circular economy in electronics, ICT, semiconductors, quantum, and photonics. Keynotes addressed the environmental impact of high-performance computing and the strategic importance of sustainable electronic packaging. Technical sessions covered topics such as energy and waste reduction in semiconductor processing, sustainable automotive electronics, component recycling, biodegradable materials, and innovative recycling and recovery methods. Life Cycle Assessments of electronic components and systems were presented, and a panel discussion emphasised the need for extended product responsibility and design for disassembly and reuse. The conference highlighted ongoing challenges and innovations in making electronics more sustainable and announced plans for a second conference in 2026.

STEM Kits Inspire Young Cubs to Explore the World of Electronics
The Centre for Power Electronics (CPE) and IMAPS-UK are promoting awareness of electronics in early stage education. Funds have been dedicated to the procurement of Hot Wires – Plug and Play Electronics Sets for distribution to primary schools and activity groups (suitable for Ages 8+) to raise the awareness of electronics and stimulating children with a wide range of experiments involving building of functioning electronics.
Darren Harvey of Accelonix recently hosted an exciting STEM session for the 2nd Caldicot Cub Group, where the fascinating world of electronics and everyday devices were explored through hands-on experiments including building circuits using the Hot Wires kit. Download the Full Report Here.

If you are involved in STEM activities in early stage education and are interested in applying for one of these sets, could you email the IMAPS-UK Office with details of the intended recipients of these sets and a short description of how you plan to actively promote an awareness of electronics.

Microelectronics Packaging Workshop – 30 October 2025 – Report
The Microelectronics Packaging Workshop has made the following information available.
The IMAPS-UK organised Microelectronics Packaging Workshop: From Theory to Practice took place on Thursday 30th October 2025 at the Granta Centre, Cambridge. The Workshop covered technical overviews of die attach, wire bonding and packaging in the morning, followed by several case studies showing the implementation of microelectronics packaging in real world applications. The event proved a success, bringing together almost 60 participants from across the microelectronics packaging industry. Representatives from academia, manufacturing organisations and equipment/materials suppliers shared the opportunity to learn from one another during a full day of presentations, Q&A’s and networking.
